Sourav Ganguly claims that the Asia Cup 2020 is canceled

The president of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, believes that the Asia Cup 2020 is called off.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was to hold a meeting to take a call on the mega-event on 9th July but the BCCI’s president has claimed it earlier. He has spoken that Asia Cup has finally been called-off.

The tournament was to be staged at UAE in September. Pakistan, however, got the rights to host the tournament, but Indo-Pak political tensions rose as an obstacle and India denied to visit Pakistan for Asia Cup 2020.

PCB later contacted Sri Lanka to grant them the hosting rights and also took UAE under consideration. Hence, UAE got finalized for hosting Asia Cup 2020.

“Asia Cup has been canceled,” claimed Ganguly just a day before the scheduled Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.

Discussing the fate of cricket in India, Ganguly speaks that the safety of the player will be considered over everything and finds it hard to reveal when the international cricket will be resumed in the country. He also disclosed that BCCI is making the decisions and holding meetings monthly to reach to a conclusion considering the present situations created by the Coronavirus.

“It’s difficult to say which will be India’s first international series. We’ve done our preparations but we can’t do much till we know the government rules. We are not in a hurry because the health of players is of the utmost importance. We are monitoring things monthly,” he added.
