The CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wasim Khan, has said that Asia Cup will go ahead by any means does not matter either in Sri Lanka or in UAE. As no official call has been made over the scenario, the tournament seems to be postponed.
Asia Cup postponing can be a massive blow for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it got the hosting rights. However, Team India (BCCI) denied touring Pakistan in the midst of its worst political relations. As a consequence, the hosting rights are decided to be given to UAE or Sri Lanka in place of Pakistan.
As Sri Lanka don’t have as many cases of the Coronavirus, Wasim has suggested holding the event there. In case if not Sri Lanka, then UAE is also ready to host the tournament.
PCB: Asia Cup will go ahead, either in UAE or in Sri Lanka
“The Asia Cup will go ahead. The Pakistan team returns from England on 2nd September so we can have the tournament in September or October. There are some things which will only get clear in the due course of time. We are hopeful of having the Asia Cup because Sri Lanka has not had too many cases of the Coronavirus. If they can’t do it, then UAE is also ready,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
However, According to the existing schedule, Asia Cup is likely to be staged by September and the T20 World Cup is to be commenced by 18th October. As the ICC officials are looking forward to canceling the World Cup, Indian authorities are looking forward to holding their cash-rich league in a window of September-November.
