IPL cannot be shortened just to organize Asia Cup 2020: BCCI

Asia Cup postponing can be a massive blow for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it got the hosting rights. However, Team India denied touring Pakistan in the midst of its worst political relations. As a consequence, the hosting rights were decided to be given to either Sri Lanka or UAE in place of Pakistan.

An official of SLC recently revealed that they are in contact with PCB and ACC to swap the Asian boards for hosting Asia Cup.

As a result, BCCI revealed that they have no idea from where such pieces of news are coming and nothing has been decided in the meeting over swapping Asian venues for the Asia Cup.

“We have no idea where such reports are coming from and we’re surprised how fast these reports travel. The BCCI is clear that no decision was taken at the ACC meeting. The Board (BCCI) is tired of giving out these clarifications,” the BCCI official said, as reported by Yahoo cricket.

The board further maintained that India and BCCI will not bear and will not be the participants in case if IPL have to be truncated because of Asia Cup and no such scenario will be taken under consideration.

“Let’s be clear about that first. There won’t be a truncated IPL just to host an Asia Cup. Those thinking on such lines are clearly not speaking in India’s interests and the BCCI will not be a party to it,” sources added.

The Coronavirus has stopped the flow of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that was to be commenced by 29th March. Then, it got dragged to a window of April-March, then 15th May, and then finally postponed indefinitely. Amidst the lockdown, the government and the cricketing authorities have taken a mutual decision to postpone the league until further notice. However, the window of September can be taken under consideration in case if the T20 World Cup gets canceled.
