The former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra, believes, MS Dhoni is not the necessary element for India in the World Cup 2021.
It has been a long ago since Dhoni featured in international cricket. He was last seeing play in the semifinals of the World Cup 2019. He took a year gap from the game and wanted to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) that got postponed; is set to initiate by 19th September. He, who leads Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is involved in net and training sessions to feature in IPL and plans to make a comeback on the international level.
However, many speak against him and believe he is no more needed as India has got a vast choice for the wicket-keepers and finishers.
India can manage in the World Cup without MS Dhoni: Aakash Chopra
“I think we can manage without him, let’s be honest. Because we are talking about 2021,” Chopra said.
“It is in India and you definitely want MS Dhoni to be there in the team and want him to play. “But first thing, does Dhoni want to play? I have been saying this like a broken record that I feel he doesn’t want to play,” he stated.
“But even if he is available, we are talking about 2021. It is still more than a year to go when that World Cup will happen in India. So, we have to get used to managing without him and I think will get used to it by then. “So I feel his presence is not so important that if he is not there you will not win the World Cup,” he added.
However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have revealed the backup venues for World Cup 2021. UAE and Sri Lanka will be considered for hosting the World Cup 2021 as India, being the real hosts, are still suffering from the COVID-19 cases.
As per the last announcement, it had been decided that the T20 World Cup 2020 that has been shifted to 2022, will be hosted by Australia. Cricket Australia does not want to host it but now would have to do as the global cricket council has considered it as their utmost duty. However, the T20 World Cup 2021 was finalized to get hosted by India as there was a debate over the hosting rights.
It is to be noted that India also have the right to host the ICC World Cup 2023 that is to be played between October and November.
